9. Formaldehyde/Ketones

Methods: CARB 430, EPA0011, TO-11, TO-11A, TO-5
Detector: HPLC/UV

The determination of aldehydes and ketones is of critical importance in a number of industrial, biomedical and ambient environmental applications. This class of compounds is best sampled using 2-4 dinitrophenylhydrazine reagent in aqueous acidic solutions or impregnated on C18 or silica gel cartridges (TO-5 or TO-11).

10. Organic acids; Phenols/cresols

Methods: TO-8
Detector: HPLC/UV

Organic acids (i.e., acetic acid, formic acid, citric acid, etc.) are also analyzed using the HPLC/UV systems. These compounds are normally sampled in an alkaline impinger solution. Similarly, phenols and cresols sampled in sodium hydroxide are analyzed using the HPLC/UV system (TO-8).

11. Inorganic acids (HF, HCl, HNO3,  H2SO4)

Methods: NIOSH 7903, CARB 421
Detector: Ion Chromatograph/conductivity

Inorganic acids (e.g., HCl, HNO3, H2SO4, HF, etc.) sampled in alkaline solutions are analyzed using an Ion Chromatograph equipped with a conductivity detector. This instrument is capable of detecting sub ug levels of these ions.

12. Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH)

Methods: TO-13, NIOSH 5506
Detector: HPLC/UV

PAHs are sampled on sorbent (XAD, PUF) system and are analyzed using a Shimadzu 10A HPLC/UV system. Detection limits for PAHs are close to 0.1 ug/ml.
